The New iPhone/iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup, What To Expect [INFOGRAPHIC]

Everyone who has been following any Apple news-related website should know all about the various iPhone 5 rumors in circulation. Those who are looking forward to the new iPhone have some idea about what new features it might have. For example, we all know that a taller 4-inch display and a smaller dock connector is very much likely to appear in the next-generation iPhone as there have been confirmed reports about some rumors from various major publications.
All these rumors and reports make us expect certain things from Apple’s next-generation iPhone. We all want a bigger display, a faster processor, a better camera, a new design and more from the new iPhone or whatever it may be called. Nowhereelse.fr has created an info-graphic based on all those rumors and reports coming in from various publications such as Business Insider, Apple Insider, BGR etc. This infographic shows us what can be expected and what is most likely to be true. Meaning this is the rumor roundup for the iPhone 5 you have been waiting for!
On an average, 97 percent of these news sites and publications believe that the new iPhone will have a larger 4-inch screen, 89 percent believe it will come with a new design, 94 percent believe that there will be a new smaller connector and relocated headphone jack and so on. Check out the complete infographic below.
Everything We Know About The iPhone-5
It looks like BGR is 100 percent sure that the new iPhone/iPhone 5 will come with a 4-inch display, new design, smaller connector, relocated headphone jack, new processor, more RAM, NFC, 4G LTE, and a nano SIM. Let’s hope BGR is right, seriously, who wouldn’t want all those to be present in the new iPhone.
According to reports, Apple will be unveiling the next-generation iPhone on September 12th and BGR again has 100 percent belief in that. Only time will tell, and because the rumored announcement date isn’t that far away you don’t have long to wait.
What new features and design improvements do you expect in the new iPhone or iPhone 5? Let us know in the comments..

Add A Self-Timer To The Stock iOS Camera App With The CamTime Cydia Tweak

The iPhone 4/4S camera hardware is top of the line, but the built-in iOS camera app is not so much. The camera app in iOS provides basic functionality and that doesn’t even include a self-timer. All you can do is turn on/off the flash, enable grid view or HDR and obviously take a picture or shoot a video. Even some entry-market phones have more options than the iOS camera app!
CamTime Cydia Tweak
A self-timer on your camera can be very helpful, as you can capture photos without actually having to hold the camera. With the new CamTime Cydia tweak, you can finally add a self-timer to your iOS Camera app. Unlike regular self-timers that have standard presets for 5, 10 or 20 seconds, CamTime has no presets whatsoever. You can set in your custom number of seconds for the picture to be taken in. This means you can set the timer for say, 500,000 seconds, leave for lunch and then come back and have your picture taken. Keep in mind that you can only set the time in seconds and there are not any options to configure.
CamTime BigBoss Free
Once the tweak is installed, a timer button will appear next to the shutter, which when tapped asks you to set the time in seconds. The tweak works well on the iPhone 4S and the latest iOS 5.1.1 firmware. CamTime is currently available in the BigBoss repo for free. Need a self-timer on your iOS Camera app? Then this is the tweak for you!

Dash Multitasking Replacement Now Available On Cydia For iPhone And iPod Touch

Dash is self-described multitasking revamp for the iPhone and iPod touch which replaces the standard multitasking tray. Instead of putting icons of previously used apps in a tray below the screen, Dash allows users to swipe between cards which represent open apps.
These cards contain screenshots and icons of the apps they represent. Users flip between open cards with swipes, on a SpringBoard-like interface. The animation between the cards can be set under Settings -> Dash -> animation. There’s there basic scroll animation, animations which mimic coverflow and time machine, and two others labelled Rotary and Cylinder.
The activation method can be set as a double-press of the home button in order to replace the multitasking tray, but if can also be set to activate through a different method if you still want to use the default app switcher from time to time.
It is important to keep in mind that multitasking tweaks have been available in Cydia for a long time, and Dash is a new addition to the genre. The current gold standard for multitasking on the iPhone is Zephyr, by Chpwn. Zephyr is more transparent than Dash, as Zephyr doesn’t need to be called up; instead it allows users to directly swipe between open apps. If you’re using an iPad, you may be more interested in Quasar, which allows for actual side-by-side multitasking in separate panes.
Dash displaying a card for notes.
Dash is only $1.99 and early in development. It’s different enough from Zephyr that I wouldn’t call it a copy-cat app, and it might be what you’re looking for in a multitasking tweak. You can find dash in the ModMyi repository.
What sort of multitasking do you use? The default method, a custom tray, gestures, true side-by-side multitasking, or do you disable multitasking altogether to save battery life? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Apple vs Samsung Verdict is in: Samsung Ordered to Pay $1 Billion in Damages to Apple

0
For over a few years now, Apple and Samsung has not only been fighting in the market place, but also in the courtroom. Both the companies accused each other of infringing patents. The jury in this landmark case between the world’s two largest phone manufacturers has reached a verdict in just three days of deliberations.

Legal teams from both sides were given 25 hours each to present their case. Apple presented different scenarios where Samsung slavishly copied their design and infringed their patents, hence demanded $2.5 Billion in damages due to the lost sales revenue. A nine person jury was asked to complete comprehensive 20-pages document containing 700+ questions.
The Verge was in the court room and live blogged the decisions. And the verdict is, Samsung has been found guilty of infringing on several Apple’s patents.
Almost all Samsung devices infringe all three Apple software patents. Galaxy Tab did NOT infringe the iPad design patent. Samsung will have to pay $1.05 Billion ($1,051,855,000) in damages to Apple: $57 million for Samsung’s Prevail handset, $44.8 million for the Mesmerize, $3.3 million for the Replenish, $1 million for the Samsung Transform.

As per the verdict none of the Apple devices infringe on any of Samsung Patents. So, Apple doesn’t owe anything to Samsung. In this landmark tech case in US, Apple has certainly achieved the major victory and has secured its intellectual property.

NFC Chip Spotted in Leaked iPhone 5 Front Assembly?

1
Apple.pro has posted some leaked pictures of what they believe is the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip tucked down under the metal chassis, as shown in the photo below…

New images thought to be of the front casing of the upcoming iPhone 5 show a metallic square chassis never seen before in any iPhone, prompting some to speculate the mystery part is an NFC chip.
The purported NFC chip is located next to the unit’s front-facing camera. Apple is rumored to have swapped the locations of the next gen iPhone front-facing camera and IR proximity sensor, thus leaving a sizable room to the left of the earpiece.
MacOtakara, a Japanese Apple blog, notes that the square component covered by EMI shielding is in line with the dimensions of currently available NFC packages like NXP’s 5 millimeter-by-5 millimeter solution.
First the NFC Chip references were found in the code of the hardware dumps from upcoming iPhone prototypes, so the chances of Apple including NFC capabilities in iPhone 5 are very high.

By storing credit card, bank, or other digital payment information on a device, NFC can securely conduct transactions with other authorized devices. NFC would allow iPhone users to share files with other iOS devices.
It is believed that NFC introduction in iPhone will be a game changing feature and a big part of the Sept 12th iPhone 5 unveiling. iPhone 5 will be loaded with iOS 6 which is claimed to bring 200+ new features. Checkout: iOS 6 Features.

Apple Seeks Ban on 8 Samsung Devices in the U.S.

0
Last week, Jury found several of Samsung devices infringing on Apple’s patents and awarded $1 billion in demages to Apple from Samsung. Following this win over Samsung in a US court, Apple is now seeking a ban on 8 samsung devices in the US…

A notice filed by the Cupertino company with the court lists the devices it wants to ban from US sales which includes several Galax S and S II variants. The jury found 28 Samsung devices guilty of infringing on Apple’s patent, however, Apple is seeking an injunction on 8 devices because most of the other devices are already out of the product-life-cycle. The targeted 8 Samsung devices include:
  • Galaxy S 4G
  • Galaxy S2 (AT&T)
  • Galaxy S2 (Skyrocket)
  • Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)
  • Galaxy S2 Epic 4G
  • Galaxy S Showcase
  • Droid Charge
  • Galaxy Prevail
The Verge reports:
Despite having received a finding of infringement from the jury on most of the products in play in case, it looks like Apple is only going after eight. This isn’t terribly surprising given the fact that many of the products in the case are no longer available in the US.
It’s interesting to note here that Google’s pure Android smartphone: Galaxy Nexus, which is manufactured by Samsung, in not present on the list. Separately, Bloomberg notes that Apple is seeking a ban on the cellular version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. Notably, this is the tablet that the U.S.-based jury believed did not infringe Apple’s patents.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for September 20th.

Apple, Samsung Still Unable To Trim Down Patent Claims In Ongoing Lawsuit

With the cases from both Apple and Samsung presented over the last couple weeks, the judge overseeing the ongoing patent case between the two ordered the companies to sit down and try to work it out. They were to let her know if they reached any agreements by no later than yesterday, and so they have. The results of these sit-downs: absolutely nothing. The joint statement from both parties reads, “The parties have met and conferred about case narrowing, but have not been able to narrow their cases further.
Final Day Of Apple vs Samsung Trial
The trial resumes in earnest tomorrow, and Judge Lucy Koh had hoped to either simplify the case considerably or settle it outright over the weekend. Now that that plan has failed, the jury will be called back, and the trial will go on. There’s still a chance that the two companies will settle; a law professor interviewed by Businessweek believes the patent portfolios involved are too broad for a jury verdict to not be devastating for the parties involved. A settlement will most likely be reached that will settle all of Apple and Samsung’s ongoing patent disputes, which are currently ongoing on four different continents.
The jurors are back at work tomorrow, August 21, and they’ll be attempting to come to a verdict over the next couple of weeks.

BiteSMS v6.3 Released Bringing About Themes And Many Other Improvements

One of the main reasons I continue to Jailbreak my iPhone is for a Cydia tweak called BiteSMS. You see, BiteSMS is a powerhouse tweak that takes the stock Messages app and injects it with a dose of steroids. Probably the most widely recognized feature of BiteSMS is the ability to reply to text messages from anywhere within iOS without actually having to launch the stock Messages app. It does’t stop at quick reply however, BiteSMS supercharges your iPhone’s messaging capabilities and really is something that needs to be experienced.
Download BiteSMS v6.3 Cydia Tweak
Today BiteSMS v6.3 has been introduced with the obvious bug fixes/stability improvements, as well as a bunch of other things. BiteSMS comes with new themes, a ‘mark as read’ icon in banner notifications and much more that you can read about in the changelog below.
  • Check out biteSMS, Settings, Themes…NICE!!!
  • Added a ‘mark as read’ icon in the Apple banner roll notification.
  • Added the ability to display the contact pic in the ‘Lock Screen Notification List’ (see biteSMS, Settings, More Stuff, Contact Pics).
  • Better control of Quick Reply. See biteSMS, Settings, Quick Reply: Lock Mode and Unlock Mode.
  • Fixed a whole heap of layout issues on the iPad.
  • Fixed up issue with very new iPhones (currently in China) in relation to Emoji character encoding.
  • For iOS 5.1: Fixed bug in Quick Compose volume HUD where we were restoring the wrong volume category.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor bugs.
If you haven’t updated to the latest version of BiteSMS yet, then you should do it right away. BiteSMS 6.3 is currently available in the BigBoss repository for about $5. That folks is a discounted price at half off for a certain time period, so get it before it goes back to its original price tag.

Dock And Headphone Jack Assembly For iPhone 5 Leaked, Plus Complete Back Shell [IMAGES]

More chunks of iPhone 5 just keep showing up. It’s a miracle no one has gathered these all up and built an iPhone 5 yet. Today’s example of this phenomenon comes courtesy of iResQ, who has managed to obtain the USB dock and headphone jack assembly from one source, and the entire back shell from another source. They were kind enough to put them together and take some pictures.
As you can see, all the rumors about a smaller 9-pin connector and a bottom-mounted headphone jack are true. There’s also a comparison with an iPhone 4S, which makes it look like the iPhone 5 won’t be any skinnier than the current model. We’ve probably reached the point of diminishing returns on phone thinness anyways, so that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Unfortunately, they didn’t provide a picture that would indicate how tall the two phones are in comparison to each other, so it’s still not 100% clear how tall the iPhone 5 will be.

Skype iOS App Updated With Photo Sharing, Minor Visual Changes And More [Download Now]

Everyone’s favorite VOIP calling application, Skype was updated today to version 4.1 in the iOS forefront to bring about new features like Photo sharing. Both the iPhone and iPad version of Skype now supports the ability to send and receive photos, and has a variety of bug fixes which will greatly improve stability. Perhaps the biggest fix however, was targeted around memory leaks causing unnecessary battery drain, and issues with calls being commenced over Bluetooth.
Download Skype v4.1 iOS
Among other things Skype for iOS v4.1 also includes minor visual improvements and updated privacy settings. As pointed out in our previous article about Skype being updated to v4.0 – for the Jailbreakers, Skype still displays a “system requirements” warning on launch and explains that Skype only works on “unmodified versions of iOS.” Don’t worry about the message, Skype should work just fine. You can download Skype v4.1 from one of the direct links below.

iPhone 5 Screen Protector Proclaim Centered Face Time Camera

We have just received a fresh iPhone 5 screen protectors (both in Ultra Oleophobic and Ultra Crystal) showing a small hole at the top, re-igniting previous claims that the next generation iPhone will be taller and

feature centered face-time camera. The cutout area, hole and other dimensions resembles with the design document which was exclusively leaked few weeks back by us.

As evident in the image below, new iPhone 5 screen protector has been designed exactly to fit the 4-inch front panel of the device leaked in past. While it could be another sign that Apple has something completely new in store for its sixth generation iPhone hardware, case designs, screen protectors and panels in the past have spotty track record when it comes to predicting what new Apple hardware will look like.
transparent_screen_protector_iphone_5
Assuming it’s legit (it seem to be), we’re not terribly surprised by its appearance since we already know that it will adopt taller design with centered face time camera. Like the majority of leaked iPhone 5 parts, its authenticity has not been verified.

The next-generation iPhone is believed to be in production and some time away from shipping. Analysts estimate the iPhone 5 will be on shelves in October with an announcement in second-half of September. Specifically, mainstream media outlets have positioned its announcement on September 12 with possible release on September 21.
Do you think Apple will relocate the position for face time camera?

Leaked iPhone 5 Nano-SIM Tray And Buttons Compared With iPhone 4S Parts [VIDEO]

We’ve already seen images of the leaked iPhone 5 Nano-SIM tray, but it’s always better seeing them on video. Well, here’s a new video that compares the leaked iPhone 5 Nano-SIM tray and other external buttons with the iPhone 4S parts. The buttons include Home button, Volume buttons, Power button and the Loud/Silent switcher.
In the video, which comes from a repair firm called SmartPhone Medic, the leaked iPhone 5 parts are briefly compared with those from the current gen iPhone 4/4S. From the video, it can be clearly seen that the Power button is slimmer than the current gen iPhone button, the Volume buttons are similar, the Home button is slightly smaller in diameter than the current Home button and the Loud/Silent switcher is also slimmer. The most important, however, is the Nano-SIM tray. It is smaller in size and cannot hold the current Micro-SIM cards, which could only mean that Apple may finally move to Nano-SIM cards. Check out the video below:
We will only know if all of these parts actually belong to the iPhone 5, when Apple unveils it on September 12th. If, Apple unveils it! Do you think these parts belong to the iPhone 5? Are you happy with a Nano-SIM?

The Popular WhatsApp Messenger App Has Been Released For Windows Phone

You might have noticed that WhatsApp had leaked screenshots for a Windows Phone version of their multiplatform messaging app in a hidden section of their website. When we checked last week, the link to the app in the Windows Market Place was down. WhatsApp Messenger has once again returned to Windows Phone 7.5 (and up). Additionally, the icon for Windows Phone is back on the main page of WhatsApp‘s website, where it had previously been vacant.
WhatsApp Released For Windows Phone
WhatsApp is an messenging app that is intended to compete with SMS texts. The app is currently available on six platforms, including iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Symbian, and Windows Phone. WhatsApp has a number of advantages over traditional text messages, including the ability to send videos, share locations, and engage in goup chats. In addition, WhatsApp costs significantly less than a typical SMS; the first year is free on Windows Phone, afterwards WhatsApp is only $0.99 per year.
The advantage SMS messages have over WhatsApp is that they will work with virtually any cell phone, while WhatsApp only supports smart phones and tablets with their app installed. If your friend is using a “dumb phone” or an unsupported Smart Phone such as the Palm Pre, they will not even have a chance install WhatsApp, and any particular social app can only be as good as the number of people using it.
There are a couple good alternatives to WhatsApp to keep in mind: EveryMe is a meta-social network which can even send SMS messages to contacts without the app; Facebook Messenger is also a decent SMS replacement, as if you know somebody’s name, there’s a good chance you will be able to message them.

iPad Mini 3D Renders Based on Reports and Leaked Schematics

0
A designer named Maurizio Vitale has created some iPad mini renders based on the rumored size and that it would look look like an iPod Touch. 9to5mac has posted these iPad mini 3D renders. Hit the jump to learn more about the leaked info on iPad mini and the 3D renders…

iPad Mini would look like a larger iPod Touch with skinnier bezels than a fill-sized iPad, reports, 9to5mac. The height, width, screen-size, and more dimensions of these 3D renders were taken from the leaked iPad mini schematics from July, which basically matches the information reported by 9to5mac that it’ll look like an iPod Touch.
These iPhone mini 3D renders are also compared with 9.7″ iPad display which is also based on the dimensions garnered from the schematics.

iPhone Survives 1000 Free Fall With The G-Form X-Protect Case [VIDEO]

It’s not everyday that you get to watch an iPhone being dropped from the Sky. The crew over at G-Form, decided to drop an iPhone from about 1000 feet above the ground while cliff jumping. It’s interesting to see such videos, because we love watching iPhones being thrashed, dropped and dragged around, don’t we? Unfortunately however, you drop your iPhone from say, 5 feet, and you’re sure to have a cracked screen.
G-Foam X-Protect Case Survives A 1000-Feet Free Fall [VIDEO]
G-Form, on the other hand, doesn’t want you to have a cracked screen. The iPhone in this video is protected using the X-Protect case, which uses their very own Reactive Protection Technology to save the iPhone from being torn apart. The case is made using a special material called Poron XRD that protects the iPhone from bad falls as it can absorb over 90 percent of the impact. In this new video, base jumpers drop an iPhone with the X-Protect case from 1000 feet, as it continues to record. Even after it hits ground zero, the iPhone continues to record and doesn’t show any signs of being dead. Of course, the iPhone isn’t actually shown and it did land on a surface covered with grass. Check out the video below.
They should try dropping it on to a concrete surface next! The G-Form X-Protect case is a really good case for your iPhone, especially if you’re one of those who like to drop your phone a lot. It looks cool too, but makes your iPhone look bulky at the same time. Well, if you’re going to try and drop your iPhone from anywhere close to 1000 feet, we would definitely recommend this case. Those interested, can head over to G-Form website and get the X-Protect case for $39.99. This case is designed for the iPhone 4/4S.

Hangup Calls By Turning Your iPhone On Its Face With Turn To Hangup Cydia Tweak

1
Here’s a new Cydia tweak for jailbroken iPhones that lets you hang up an incoming call by turning your iPhone on its face. For a long time Android devices have already had the feature to silence an incoming call, but this is a first. This tweak can be used when you want to quickly hangup a call while you’re in a meeting, driving etc.
Turn To Hangup Cydia Tweak
Turn to Hangup is a new tweak and has only one simple function, i.e, disconnecting an incoming call. To hangup a call that you don’t want to take or are too busy to take, just turn your iPhone on its face. The call will be instantly disconnected. However, I’m not sure if people prefer disconnecting calls to silencing them. There is an option to silence calls as well, which requires you to shake your iPhone. Anyhow, this tweak can come in handy and can be enabled/disabled anytime via the Settings app. There is no other options.
