5.1.1 Jailbreak Tutorial Here!: VIDEO

Last week a tethered jailbreak was released for iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation. While it was great to have a jailbreak so soon, the jailbreak didn’t include any GUI tools like Cydia, only SSH and afc2 support were added.
Fortunately, now that we have SSH access, we can transfer and install pretty much anything on our jailbroken iOS 6 devices, including Cydia.
Check inside for the full video tutorial that shows you how to install Cydia on iOS 6 beta

Note: Read this entire tutorial and watch the video in full prior to starting if you are new at this.
Step 1: Jailbreak, and boot tethered your iOS 6 device. See this iOS 6 jailbreak tutorial for more info.
Step 2: SSH into your device (you must be on a local WiFi network). I use Coda in my tutorial, but there are tons of other SSH tools available on the Mac. Tools like Putty work well on Windows. SSH username = “root” SSH password = “alpine”.
Step 3: Execute the following command via SSH (copy and paste): wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://wyndrepo.googlecode.com/files/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh
Step 4: Your device will respring, and Cydia should now appear on your Home screen. Open Cydia, and it will begin Preparing Filesystem. It will then respring.
Step 5: Now you can use Cydia and start installing apps and tweaks via Cydia. Beware that most apps and tweaks have not been updated with iOS 6 in mind, so your mileage may vary as far as compatibility is concerned. Proceed at your own risk.
Were you able to successfully install Cydia on your iOS 6 device? Tell us your experience in the comment section below.

iH8Sn0w has pushed a new version of iFaith that I stumbled upon when writing the how to downgrade from iOS 5.1 guides. This new version of iFaith is iFaith v1.4.2 and at this time the changes that are present are not known. One can only assume that bug fixes and stability improvements have made their way into iFaith v1.4.2.
Now for those of you who have never heard of iFaith before, what the tool essentially does is allow you to dump the SHSH blobs on your iOS device to a file on your computer. This SHSH cache file can then be used to create a custom stitched firmware file that will allow you to downgrade to a previous firmware that Apple is not signing.
iFaith v1.4.2 Windows
If you would like to download iFaith v1.4.2 then you can go to the iJailbreak Downloads Section or use one of the direct links below.
Download iFaith v1.4.2 (Windows)
Unfortunately iFaith is a Windows only tool and will not work on the Mac OS X operating system. Don’t forget to let us know if you have any questions or further thoughts on iFaith v1.4.2 in the comments.
For unknown reasons Apple released a slightly updated build of the iOS 5.1.1 firmware for the (GSM) iPhone 4. The weird thing about this firmware is that it does not update the (GSM) iPhone 4′s baseband and has no changelog associated with it. While this is strange, Apple obviously felt the need to include a slight fix for those who are updating to the iOS 5.1.1 firmware, but did not think it would be worth calling it iOS 5.1.2.
Download TinyUmbrella 5.11.01
The developer of TinyUmbrella, @NotCom has recently tweeted he has updated TinyUmbrella to version 5.11.01 to support the (GSM) iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1 Build 9B208 firmware that Apple stealthily released. Thus, you can now save your iOS 5.1.1 Build 9B208 SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella 5.11.01 without any troubles.

Earlier today we told you that UltraSn0w was updated to version 1.2.7 to support unlocking the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. Although we showed you how to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS already on the iOS 5.1.1 firmware using a hacked together version of UltraSn0w, dubbed UltraSn0w Fixer For 5.1.1, using the official solution is always a better idea as it is more stable and reliable. Thus, in this how to guide we will show you how to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware using UltraSn0w 1.2.7.
UltraSn0w 1.2.7 Supported iPhone Basebands
  • iPhone 4 on baseband 01.59.00
  • iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, and 06.15.00
*In order to see if you have one of the supported basebands on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS you will need to go into the Settings.app > General > About and look for the Modem Firmware field.

How To Unlock iPhone With UltraSn0w 1.2.7

Step 1: You must already be running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, and you must also be Jailbroken on the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. If your iPhone is not Jailbroken please click here.
Step 2: After your iPhone is running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware and is Jailbroken you will need to simply launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.
Step 3: Once Cydia is up and running you will need to go into the Sources page. To go into the Sources page tap Manage followed by Sources.
Step 4: Typically, the UltraSn0w repo is included with Cydia. If not, tap the Edit button followed by the Add button and you will be prompted to add a URL source. Type:
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
Followed by tapping the Add Source button.
Step 5: Cydia will automatically refresh and update sources.
Step 6: After Cydia is done refreshing sources. Tap the Search tab on the bottom tab bar and search for UltraSn0w. Once UltraSn0w appears, tap on it and you should see version 1.2.7. Read through the description and tap the install button to install UltraSn0w 1.2.7 to your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS  running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware.
Note: In case you are not familiar with UltraSn0w, it is a software unlock for your iPhone meaning you can use your iPhone with any carrier by simply inserting the SIM card.

Step 7: When UltraSn0w is installed you must restart your iPhone, plug in your unofficial SIM card and wait for your iPhone to connect to your network.
Congratulations! You should now have an unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. If you have any further questions or thoughts please leave them in the comments section below.
Note #1: We will be updating this page with the latest how to jailbreak guides when new firmware versions are released, so make sure you come back soon!
